The new energy efficiency programme has been welcomed as “a positive first step for families, job creation, and the environment in Galway”.
Labour Galway West TD Derek Nolan has welcomed the establishment of the energy efficiency programme for local authority housing, which is to be implemented immediately.
Funding of €200,398 is to be made available to the Galway County Council while €193,836 will go to the Galway City Council. Both allocations will be invested within the year. This is the first tranche of funding to be released under a three-year programme.
Dep Nolan said the programme will ensure lower energy bills for families in local authority housing with poor insulation; reduce carbon emissions; and improve the local authority housing stock.
The energy efficiency programme also has the potential to create up to 1,000 jobs in the private and community based sectors throughout the State, including Galway.
