GALWAY WILL host the world premiere of the new Irish Fantasy film The Shadows when it is screened in the IMC Cinema on Saturday July 13 at 2.15pm as part of the Galway Film Fleadh.
The Shadows is written and directed by Colin Downey, produced by the Oscar Nominated Emer O’Kane of EMU Productions, and stars Galway actress Emma Eliza Regan.
The Shadows is inspired by a fairytale of the same name by George MacDonald. It tells the story of Matthew (The Tudors’ Lorcan Melia ), a lonely young boy who finds a doorway into a magical world beneath his grandmother's garden.
In a subterranean chamber, he meets a Shadowman called Yorrick (Michael Parle ) and a Shadow Princess (Emma Eliza Regan ). Yorrick is the guardian of an ancient crown and he brings Matthew on an adventure where he falls foul of a treasure hunter (Eddie Webber ) and the evil witch Eldren (Natalia Kostrzewa ), the greatest enemy of the Shadows.
The cast includes Sam Homan (Ros na Run ), Irene Wright, and Gráinne McHale.
The film is the first in a series of fantasy films by Colin Downey who is also developing an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Brave Tin Soldier with the Irish Film Board.
