Anne Boleyn, English queen, advocate of the Protestant Reformation, and a victim of the court of her husband Henry VIII, is to be portrayed on TV by a Galwegian.
Galway actress Tara Breathnach will play Anne Boleyn in the upcoming BBC2 production The Last Days of Anne Boleyn, which be broadcast on Thursday May 23 at 9pm. Filming took place on location in London and Kent in February.
The programme examines the events of the final two weeks leading up to Anne’s execution and features contributions from Booker award winning author Hilary Mantel. It was produced by Oxford Film and Television, directed by Rob Coldstream and will be broadcast as part of BBC2’s Tudor Court Season.
Tara is known for her roles in Jack Taylor and Ros na Rún. She is currently on stage in Dublin in the Focus Theatre’s production of Bankers and will shortly be playing a leading role in the feature film A Nightingale Falling set during the Irish civil war.
