CONTEMPORARY DANCE classes with Elena Giannotti, take place in the Galway Rowing Club, Woodquay, today (Thursday May 9 ), Monday 13, and Monday 20.
The classes, organised by the Galway Dance Project, will be held at 11am (advanced/professional level ) and at 2pm (beginners/intermediate )
From Italy, but now based in Ireland, Giannotti has worked in opera and dance-theatre production in the mid-1990s, and later for L’Ensemble Dance-Theatre Company, Virgilio Sieni Dance Company, Yoshiko Chuma, Nicole Peisl for The Forsythe Company, and Daghdha Dance Company. Since 2002 she has been collaborating with British choreographer Rosemary Butcher and since 2010 with Italian dance artists Max Barachini and Jacopo Jenna.
Giannotti will also be hosting a workshop on Saturday May 18 at 1.45pm in The Cube, NUI Galway, as part of the Galway Dance Days Festival.
The workshop is centred on notions of space and place, through exploration of movement and guided visualisations. The focus is on imagination, the imaginative self, and ambiguous boundaries.
