THE WOMAN who has produced special effects for Doctor Who, Iron Maiden, and Lady Gaga, is coming to Galway to take part in the Galway Arts Centre’s Cúirt Labs.
Special effects expert Kate Walsh will be taking part in the labs which will be an experimental creative space for young people (14 to 24 years of age ), on Saturday April 27.
Young people interested in pursuing a creative career and exploring their potential across a wide variety of art forms are welcome. Writers, designers, illustrators, model makers, and literature lovers will guide participants in creativity and emphasis will be on inventiveness, experimentation and imagination.
On the day, Walsh will speak about her role as producer in the company Millennium Fx and the path she took to work with monsters and werewolves. Also coming is Cork comic book artist Will Sliney, who draws for Marvel and whose Celtic Warrior: The Legend of Cú Chulainn is published by O’Brien Press this month; and author Sheila Heti.
In the afternoon there will be a youth forum featuring two representatives from Red Bird Youth Collective, The Entrepreneurs of The Future, and Aviators of The Future, both from the Galway Educate Centre.
The groups will give presentations on their current projects and contribute to an open discussion on pioneering and creative entrepreneurship. This event will be co-chaired by Dani Gill, director of the Cúirt International Festival of Literature, and Maeve Mulrennan, head of visual art at Galway Arts Centre.
