North Beach Poetry Nights
The second annual North Beach Poetry Nights’ Grand Slam takes place on Monday at 9pm in The Crane Bar, Sea Road, with 15 poets and performers.
There will be special guest appearances from Bristol poet Lucy English; Miceál Kearney, the 2007 Grand Slam Winner, whose debut collection Inheritance is available in Charlie Byrne’s and from www.doirepress.com; and actor and writer Little John Nee.
The prize for the night’s slam winner is publication of a collection of her/his work. The judges will be Lucy English, Jarlath Fahy, and Moya Roddy. Admission is €5.
Over The Edge
The final Over The Edge: Open Reading of the year takes place in Galway City Library, St Augustine Street, on Thursday December 18 at 6pm.
The main reader is storyteller Clare Muireann Murphy. She has performed at The Electric Picnic, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Baboró, and the Singapore Out Of The Box Puppet Festival. Clare played Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in a solo show as part of the Tales for Winter series in November. Her repertoire includes the Irish myths and world folklore.
Also reading are Paula Gilbert, secretary of Mayo Writers Block; and Denise Heneghan, who won third prize at Baffle 2005 and was shortlisted in the 2008 Over The Edge New Writer of the Year competition.
