The life and times of Máirtín Jaimsie

Máirtín Ó Flaithearta, the Aran Island actor, broadcaster, and raconteur, better known as simply as Máirtín Jaimsie, will be the subject of new documentary on TG4.

Litir ó Mháirtín Jaimsie will be broadcast on TG4 on St Stephen’s Day, Wednesday December 26, at 8.30pm.

This hour-long documentary, which was premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh during the summer, examines Máirtín’s 30 years in RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta where he endeared himself to many listeners before retiring in 2010; his time in boarding school; his career as an actor in Waiting for Godot and The Playboy of the Western World with Druid; and as a writer.

Máirtín also speaks openly about alcohol and its effects on him, as well as of his recent battle with prostate cancer.

The documentary was produced by Bríd Seoighe of Connemara’s Abú Media and directed by Aodh Ó Coileáin, who also lectures in Communications at Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, NUIG
