Irish harp concert and lecture

THE GALWAY Early Music Festival returns in May and as a warm-up, leading Irish harpist Siobhán Armstrong will give a concert in Galway this weekend.

Siobhán Armstrong will present a concert, entitled Discovering Gold: Medieval to 18th century harp music from the Old Gaelic world, on Monday at 1pm in the Chapel of the Poor Clares, Nuns Island.

Then at 4pm Siobhán will present a seminar in the Moore Institute Seminar Room, NUI Galway, entitled From Manuscript to Music: unearthing Historical Gaelic Music from Manuscripts & early Printed Sources.

Siobhán plays a copy of the medieval Trinity College harp - the national emblem of Ireland - strung in brass and 18-carat gold.

Tickets for the Nuns Island concert are €10/7 and are available at the door.
