Gardai in Salthill are continuing their appeal for information regarding a road traffic collision which resulted in the tragic death of a 42-year-old pedestrian.
The pedestrian, who has been named as Brian Curran of Knocknagrena, Furbo, had been walking along the Ballinahown to An Spideal road, three miles west of Barna, when a car collided with him between the hours of 1.30am and 1.40am on July 18. Mr Curran was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem examination.
The sole occupant of the car, a 19-year-old man, was uninjured in the incident. The road was closed off for a number of hours to allow time for a forensic collision examination of the scene.
No arrests have been made regarding the accident, however Gardai are appealing for anyone with information to contact Garda John Horkan at Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720.
Requiem Mass for Mr Curran is due to take place at Furbo Church today at 11am with funeral afterwards at Barna Cemetery.
