By using all the cliches of hero verses super villain movies and looking at it from a different perspective Megamind is a hilarious animation which is incredibly entertaining for all the family.
The whole movie is from the point of view of super-villain Megamind (Will Ferrell ) who is actually a nice guy, deep down, if given the chance, but as we are told, from the beginning there is always, and must be, a villain and a hero. After all, it would be pretty boring being a villain with no one to stop you.
With his giant blue head Megamind was never really going to fit in once he was sent from his dying home planet (think Superman ) and sent hurtling towards Earth. While he ended up with a prison for an adopted home, Metro Man (Brad Pitt ) landed into the lap of luxury, and from there the rivalry began. Megamind soon realises that sides have to be picked, and if he was going to be bad, he was going to be really bad.
After countless attempts it seems that Megamind, with the help of side-kick Minion (David Cross ), has finally succeeded in killing Metro Man and he takes over the city, however, the thrill of the victory does not last, he becomes bored since there is no one left to fight. Megamind creates a new enemy, Titan (Jonah Hill ), who wouldn’t be his first choice but hey, beggers can’t be choosers. In diguise Megamind grooms Titan for the ultimate battle but he becomes distracted by feelings he never knew he had for a nosy reporter Roxanne Ritchie (Tina Fey ). Juggling so many different identities starts to take its toll on Megamind who actually begins to discover that he can be a nice guy - if the fact that he is blue, with a giant head, and penchant for taking over a city did not get in the way so much.
Life seems near to perfect for Megamind until of course his subterfuge is discovered, Titan turns out to be a colossal mistake, and he finds himself actually attempting to save the day. Not really the plan he had in mind but as the moral of the story goes: “heroes aren’t born, they’re made”.
I absolutely loved this movie. The sarcasm of Farrell was just brilliant while Pitt really pushed the cringiness of hero worship. It is hilarious from start to finish, I definitely recommend it for everyone.
