The opening of a "unique art project" entitled 'Point Zero' starts on Friday, December 9 at 6pm in 126 Artist-Run Gallery on St Bridget's Place.
Running until December 30, 'Point Zero' was created to "help Ukrainian artists to express themselves and their feelings surrounding the ongoing war in their homeland, and to enable the Irish public to immerse themselves in these shared experiences."
Started by multi-genre Ukrainian artists, Martisha Sea, who moved to Galway this year following the ongoing war which has displaced hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians. Sea quickly immersed herself in the local art scene and in particular with 126 Artist-Run Gallery which enabled the creation of the exhibition.
The project's title, 'Point Zero', suggests a "point of reset and the beginning of new life for many Ukrainians."
The opening of 'Point Zero' will take place on Friday, December 9 and will be kicked off by a performance by Martisha, a live preformance of traditional Ukrainian music followed by a reception. After opening activities have taken place, a "highly anticipated" afterparty will take place, featuring top local DJs.
During the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to engage with paintings, sculptures and unique ambient sounds created by Ukrainian artists who are now residents in Ireland. A print market will also take place at 126 Artist-Run Gallery, featuring works by local artists. A portion of the sale of these works will go towards supporting a Ukrainian charity organisation. Details of several other unique events which will occur over the duration of the project will be announced later.
