The Galway International Arts Festival and Flogas are celebrating a major win in the Business to Arts Awards, via their partnership with John Gerrard’s Mirror Pavilion artwork.
The GIAF, and its energy partner Flogas, won Best Use of Creativity in the Community, at the 2021 Business to Arts Awards last night.?
The award was for their partnership on the Mirror Pavilion installation which went on display in Galway city last autumn, and which was seen by more than 120,000 people. A seven metre cubed structure, it has three sides and the roof clad in a highly reflective mirror, with a fourth wall being a high resolution LED screen, which plays host to two new artworks, Corn Work and Leaf Work.
.
A reflection on climate change and sustainability, the work recalled grain milling in old Galway and how the water flow of the canals provided a sustainable, clean, energy source for the city’s now dismantled flour mills.?The energy behind powering this work was supplied by Flogas.
"Flogas has been a great partner on this very ambitious European Capital of Culture project so beautifully realized by John Gerrard,” said GIAF CEO, John Crumlish. “It engaged a large community, both live and online, on a subject that is so important to us all and we look forward to working with Flogas on other exciting engagement initiatives as the partnership progresses.”

John Rooney, managing director of Flogas Ireland said partnering with the GIAF made “perfect sense” as a company committed to the community and to the provision of sustainable electricity and gas.
“We were proud to supply 100 per cent renewable electricity to power the Mirror Pavilion and delighted our partnership with GIAF has been recognised by Business to Arts,” he said. “We want to congratulate the GIAF for everything they have achieved over the years, and we look forward to our association with the GIAF blossoming in the years ahead.”
