Irish UN Soldiers to be vaccinated prior to peacekeeping missions

Galway East TD Sean Canney welcomes ‘a common sense approach’ to what was a ‘very worrying situation’

All UN Peacekeeping soldiers, including members of the Irish Defence Forces, will now be vaccinated against Covid-19 prior to their departure for duties.

Families of soldiers volunteering for UN Peacekeeping duties, had expressed concern that soldiers were not being vaccinated prior to their departure.

A number of those families contacted Independent Galway East TD Sean Canney, who raised the issue in the Dáil, where he was informed that vaccinations would take place.

“I am pleased my concerns have been listened to,” he said. “This is a great relief for these soldiers and their families in light of the risk these men and women take on. It is a common sense approach to this very worrying situation”.
