New online portal for those wishing to upskill

A new online portal – www.gov.ie/therightcourse - a one stop shop and outlines the third level options available to those wishing to obtain or add to their qualifications has been launched this week.

The unemployed, employees and employers in Galway and South Mayo will benefit for this new facility for people seeking to upskill or retrain, said Minister for Higher Education, Simon Harris TD.

The one-stop shop outlines the further education and training places, and courses in higher education on offer, and information for those on a social welfare payment.

Fine Gael TD for Galway West, Minister Hildegarde Naughton said that this new information point will be very beneficial for those seeking to upskill.

“I know from people contacting my Constituency Office that returning to education, or starting 3rd level later in life, can be a daunting experience. At present, there are multiple sources of information and they can appear confusing at times,” she explained.

“This new online portal will bring all this information together and make returning to education much more straightforward.”

“Covid-19 has wreaked economic havoc for many in our society. This new portal provides an opportunity for those presently off work, or those wishing to change career direction, to see what courses are available to them in order to upskill or retrain ,” she said.

Business owners are also encouraged to explore the range of upskilling options available from Skillnet Ireland including enterprise-led business supports, targeted upskilling opportunities for employees in businesses, free online training programmes and virtual job placements.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has forced us to confront many of the skills shortages we have. People in Galway and South Mayo need access to the skills they need to thrive, and local businesses need the right people. This new tool will most definitely assist in that process”.
