Galway Camogie's bid to retain the O'Duffy Cup is hotting up as they prepare to take on Tipperary in this year's Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship semi-final on November 28.
The fixture is confirmed to take place in Cork’s Páirc Uí Chaoimh, preceded by Cork v Kilkenny semi-final.
Galway advanced directly into the semi-finals after topping group one. Winners over Wexford by 5-17 to 3-9, Galway then rattled up another big score, 3-13 to 0-3 over Offaly at Pearse Stadium, before completing the group with a much tighter victory, 0-15 to 0-12, over Cork.
They will be favourites to overcome Tipperary who had wins over Clare and Dublin in Group three before posting a 1-12 to 0-19 victory in the quarter-final against Waterford.
Both fixtures will be live on RTÉ Two and the RTÉ Player International with coverage beginning at 12 noon.
Lockdown Challenge
Meanwhile Galway Camogie continue to host a special virtual fundraiser for 2020 with 20 per cent going to the Galway Hospice.
The Galway Camogie 2020 Lockdown Challenge (#Challenge4Galway ) is urging clubs and individuals not linked to any camogie club, to put themselves outside their comfort zone and take on a special challenge - a "set target of weekly activity and fundraising to keep the body and mind active".
One fundraiser is virtually cycling to the 39 clubs in Galway, several supporters, including club chairman Gerry Hennelly, club secretary Ann Kearney and husband Frank are walking 5km a day for 40 days, and members of St Thomas' Camogie Club are walking one million steps in 40 days, Darren Kelly is training to do 100 burpees in one go by the end of the challenge.
Challenges can be done solely or collectively, in the outdoors or from the comfort of home. They can last the entirety of the fundraiser – 40 days (5k a day for 40 days ) or can be done over a day or weekend (running a marathon ). All challenges must be completed by Friday December 11.
The funds raised go towards the preparation of Galway's intercounty teams in competition, and the senior team's quest to return to Croke Park, while 20 per cent of all donations go to the Galway Hospice.
