Progress on lighting for pitches at Cappagh Park

Cllr Clodagh Higgins says floodlights will benefit Knocknacarra Football Club, and the wider community

By the end of this year, members of Knocknacarra Football Club will be able to look forward to training and games under permanent floodlights at the 3G pitch at Cappagh Park.

It is understood that the floodlights will be erected by the end of November, after the Galway City Council pledged "further investment" into Cappagh Park. The news has been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway City West councillor, Clodagh Higgins, although she said "progress was admittedly slow" on the issue.

“This is a hugely welcome development for the anchor tenant of this facility, Knocknacarra Football Club and its 900 members," she said. "The benefits to the communities of Knocknacarra, Barna, Salthill, and beyond are immense. Until now, the pitch was only able to be utilised during daylight hours, so the addition of lighting will maximise the pitches usage, particularly during winter."
