Content children.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

A Jewish man who challenged the authoritarian religious and political aristocracy of the powerful Roman Empire 2,000 years ago, and who was a passionate and articulate advocate for the poor, impoverished, and societal outcasts of the time.

Which living person do you most admire?

Currently Dr Tony Holohan. I have a consistent admiration for Peter McVerry.

Which is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

Disinclination.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Galway GAA. I was to have been in New York for the opening round of the Football Championship, particularly extravagant.

What is your favourite journey?

Home from Croke Park after a win.

On what occasion do you lie?

When the inconsequential truth is just too complex and time consuming.

Which living person do you most despise?

Those who discard their waste irresponsibly.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

Bernadette, Katie, Lauren, and Sadie.

4.55pm Sunday September 27 1998; Canal End, Croke Park, Dublin 3.

Which talent would you most like to have?

Perfect foresight.

What is your current state of mind?

Concerned.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Maintaining a special relationship with someone who was a stranger in 1999 but is now my partner of 20 years and wife of near-on 14.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what do you think it would be?

A Derby winning racehorse.

What is your most treasured possession?

My health.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Being unsure where my children would sleep tonight.

What is your favourite occupation?

Helping people.

Empathy and loyalty.

See above. I don’t wish to differentiate on the basis of gender.
