Cannon welcomes transport agency’s assurances over surface conditions on M6

An East Galway TD has welcomed assurances from Transport Infrastructure Ireland on surface conditions on the M6, following concerns he expressed over recent collisions during hail showers.

Minister for the Diaspora and International Development Ciaran Cannon has said that the agency has advised that motorists should moderate their speed in hail showers and he is also calling on TII to install additional electronic signage at Junction 16 (Galway Plaza ) on the M6 to ensure even greater safety for motorists.

“I wish to acknowledge Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s prompt response to me on the concerns I expressed over recent collisions on the M6 near Loughrea following hail showers. I also welcome the assurances over the safety of road surface conditions, the guarantee that there are no surface flaws and note TII`s statement that there is no road surface available that will prevent a driver from skidding in the event that he or she brakes suddenly on a surface covered in hail”.
