The Galway City Council Crisis Management Team and Head of Departments met again this afternoon. All precautionary measures from Galway City Council’s contingency plan are now in place and Storm Lorenzo will continue to be monitored as it develops throughout the evening.
At this point, the key messages are to stay safe, stay high and stay dry. The public should avoid all parks and playgrounds as well as coastal areas. Keep away from the water’s edge as there are likely to be violent storm force winds and high seas.
If absolutely essential to travel, motorists are advised to drive with caution and to reduce speeds accordingly. High sided vehicles are requested to exercise particular caution. All routes, particularly along the coast, are likely to have debris scattered following the overnight winds.
Galway City Council staff will begin post-Lorenzo clean-up at 6am Friday morning, or once it has been deemed safe to do so.
Galway City Council Customer Services phone lines will be operational throughout Thursday night to deal with emergency calls. (091 ) 536400
