Will you get a kick out of supporting local charities Rosabel’s Rooms & ACT for Meningitis?
The Train Station Gym Galway is inviting all kickboxing enthusiasts young and old to take part in an exciting and energetic fundraising initiative on Sunday May 20. All adult kickboxers from beginners to experienced will be challenged to a sponsored 500 kicks and 500 punches, while juniors (aged 8-12 ) will be pushing themselves to the limit with a 100 kicks and 100 punches challenge.
Speaking at the launch, event organiser Pat Griffin says he is delighted to be supporting two Galway-based charities that are very close to his heart.
“As a Galwayman, I’ve know the Carroll family (founders of ACT for Meningitis ) and the Monroe family (founders of Rosabel’s Rooms ) most of my life” he says. “The devastating and heart-breaking experience both have faced in losing a child has led these inspirational people to go out and make a difference in memory of their beloved children, by setting up these wonderful charities that will help so many other families on similar journeys”.
ACT for Meningitis was set up in 2011 by Siobhan and Noel Carroll following the loss of their precious daughter Aoibhe, aged four, to Meningitis. Meningitis can affect anyone of any age and and while one in ten people who contract this disease will tragically die, one in three will be left with severe side affects such as limb-loss, hearing-loss and learning disabilities
ACT are working across Ireland to save lives by raising awareness of meningitis, while providing a wide-range of free support services to anyone who has been affected by this disease in Ireland. Rosabel’s Rooms, in collaboration with The Irish Hospice Foundation was established by Suzanne McClean and Gary Monroe in memory of their beloved daughter Rosabel Monroe, who died suddenly and unexpectedly in April 2017, aged sixteen months.
This project will facilitate the development of family-focused bereavement suites in hospitals around Ireland, which will provide comfort and dignity for families following the loss of a loved one. The provision of the first Rosabel’s Room is currently underway in UHG. This project will also facilitate therapeutic supports for any individual impacted by child loss.
Through their Room-to-Heal fund, this project will facilitate direct financial support to families, when a child dies in Ireland. This will help to accommodate taking time off work, paying for funeral costs etc. Pat and his team are calling on anyone of any age with an interest in kick-boxing to get behind these wonderful charities by registering to take part on the day.
Sponsorship cards and allocated time-slots of 12-2pm or 2-4pm are available by calling into the Train Station Gym or by texting your name and date of birth to 087 4158391. Thanks to friends of the Gym, City and County Bouncing Castles, there will also be fun for all the family with a bouncy castle, face-painting and lots of treats on the day.
