FC Carlow will make a little piece of history this Sunday when they host Cobh Ramblers in their first ever under-20 Eircom League fixture.
The tie will take place at Hawkins Lane, Tullow, home of Parkville FC on September 28 at 2.00pm.
The young men from the South-east have been looking forward to their debut at senior level and are in a confident mood.
The coaching staff of Pat Purcell, Seamus Glover, Kieran Brennan and new FAI CDO, Garry Coady, are confident that the squad is up to the task.
‘Having trained four times a week for the last four months, we are as fit and ready as any team in the country,’ says captain Adam Byrne.
This young Carlow side has great pedigree and has played against many English league clubs with great distinction including the mighty Glasgow Celtic and premier league Everton FC academy.
FC Carlow was developed out of the South-East Academy and includes players from all the clubs in the Carlow area.
The club boasts some exciting young talent and local boys such as Tomas Brennan, Ryan Curran, Steven Purcell and Emmet Phelan who all have an exciting future ahead of them.
‘This is a bit of Carlow history ‘ says John Coughlin, secretary of the Carlow Football League and the current President of the LFA’ and I hope that the people of Carlow get behind this great adventure.’
FC Carlow are grouped with such hallowed names as Waterford United, Cork City, Limerick City and Wexford Youths and yet are one of the favourites to win this competition.
With the motto of ‘victory through knowledge’ this young and exciting club have no less than European football in Carlow in their sights.
