Irish Water is in the process of finalising its protocol to clarify how water supplies will be included as housing estates are taken in charge in the county.
It is expected that it won’t be finalised until later this year and until then, no housing estates will be taken in charge in Westmeath.
Director of services at Westmeath County Council, Barry Kehoe said at Monday’s meeting there are currently seven housing estates that could be taken in charge, but until Irish Water signs off on the water services there, they cannot be brought before the council.
However the estates are ready and are finished to a high standard, he said.
Around 20 more estates are being brought up to standard, he said, following questions put by Cllr Mick Dollard.
