Westmeath company Oliver Carty Ltd shortlisted in food producers awards

Westmeath company Oliver Carty Ltd has been shortlisted in the Innovation Category of the SuperValu Irish Food Producers Awards 2011. The Supervalu Irish Food Producer Awards recognise excellence, quality, and innovation within the food and beverage sector in Ireland. The awards will take place on November 30, when the winner of the Innovation Category as well as the overall winner, will be announced.

The judges were impressed with Oliver Carty’s commitment to innovation. Oliver Carty has consistently been delivering quality pork, bacon, and rashers for the last 51 years.

The brief issued for the Innovation award required suppliers to demonstrate that they have identified a new opportunity in the market and developed a solution to meet the demand. Oliver Carty Ltd cemented its place on the shortlist due to its high quality meat and innovative Darers Vacuum skin which keeps the product fresh.

Commenting on the awards, Martin Kelleher, managing director SuperValu, said, “I would like to congratulate Oliver Carty Ltd. on being shortlisted in this year’s awards. SuperValu is proud to work with Irish producers to deliver Irish products to consumers at the best possible price. The Irish Food Producers Awards are an opportunity for us to recognise the quality and expertise of local Irish producers, who are committed to offering sustained quality of service. At SuperValu 75 per cent of everything on our shelves is sourced or produced in Ireland and this is set to continue.”

The winning companies will be provided with a tailored mentoring programme from Enterprise Ireland, as well as the opportunity to nominate a representative to participate in a study mission to the Bologna Food Hub - a centre of excellence - in May 2012.
