It’s showtime for West Side Story, and the cast are bursting to get the show on the road.
After a very intense rehersal schedule, the cast and crew feel confident that their production of West Side Story is ready to hit the stage on this Saturday March 5, the opening night to their patrons and sponsors and the beginning of their week long run at the Dean Crowe, Athlone.
West Side Story is the award winning adaptation of the classic romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliette containing an enduring message at it’s heart. The poignancy of the message, the tragedy of classifying people according to their race, colour, or background, is relevant to present times. There is much about this 1957 tale that is applicable to 21st century Ireland, a place of shifting and uneasy identities. But under the direction of Johnny Worthy, his production aims to entertain rather than challenge, and provide a welcome escape from the bad news stories of these recessionary times.
The society along with the Shamrock Lodge Hotel and restaurants on the west side of town are offering great value during the run of West Side Story. Anybody travelling can avail of B&B at the Shamrock Lodge for only €30 per person all week long, and The Left Bank, Di Bella, and Kin Khao are offering 20 per cent discount Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
Tickets are great value this year at only €18 or €10 for students/OAP all week long. Family concessions are also available. Contact Dean Crowe Theatre on (090 ) 64 92129 or Golden Island Shopping Centre on (086 ) 0279110.
