Athlone Town senior women’s team manager Ciaran Kilduff has made further additions to his management team and first team squad as the club aims for a successful second half of the competitive season.
Kilduff’s first competitive game at the managerial helm resulted in a league win over Sligo Rovers, while the club’s interest in this season’s FAI Cup remains following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Galway United.
Managerial Addition
Ken Kiernan has been appointed to the role of Kilduff’s assistant manager and he comes to the position with a very impressive coaching résumé. From 2017-19 he worked with the Kennedy Cup Squad in the NDSL academy preparing for the Kennedy Cup and reaching finals en route.
He then joined Shelbourne and from 2019 to 2021 worked with the boys U15s national league side making the elite phase and cup semi-final and also worked also with Damien Duff and his U17’s national league side making a shield final.
In 2021, he took over the women’s U17 team as head coach where he had a very successful spell winning the league and cup double.
Two New First Team Players
Lauren Karabin (forward,22 ) joins Athlone Town from Monmouth University where she has enjoyed an extremely successful career to date, achieving numerous team and personal honours over the duration of her time playing college football in the US.
Carly Wetzel (midfield, 23 ) joins the from the University of St Andrew’s in Scotland having previously played with the University of North Carolina in the USA. Carly started her collegiate career in the US at McDaniel College. She then transferred and played at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, one of the top women’s soccer programmes in the United States with 22 National Championships. Carly is also a former player of Coppermine United in the UWS Pro-am league.
Peamount United Quarter Final Opponents
Meanwhile, Kilduff and his playing charges continue their quest for a return to the FAI Cup final and have been drawn to play Peamount United in the quarter final of the competition, the last eight tie to take place on the weekend of September 17.
