The Gingerbread House

What could make a parent abandon their child? And what would happen to two babes lost in the woods?

The Gingerbread House explores the universally-known story of Hansel and Gretel from their parents’ perspective, and examines the consequences of their heartless decision.

The Gingerbread House by John Chambers is a grown-up fairytale which will make you question the idea of “happily ever after” that accompanies all well-loved stories, and explores the threats posed by a life isolated from society. The production promises to be characteristic of Fregoli’s imaginative, physical and intimate style of theatre.

Fregoli is a young Galway based theatre company formed in July 2007. Fregoli aims to produce and perform energetic, stimulating modern work. The company is named after Italian actor Leopold Fregoli who was famous for impersonations and quick character changes. Fregoli was formed by actors and directors who learned their trade with NUIG's dramsoc and after a few years in the real world realised theatre needed them.

Previous productions by Fregoli include Disco Pigs (in association with Dramsoc ), Bedbound at the Cellar bar, and The Trim Festival of Masks Making Babies directed by Rob McFeely for Muscailt festival at NUIG Roger Doger, Cuba Night Club. It is performed by Shane McDermott, Tracy Bruen and Maria Tivnan, directed by Rebecca Ryan and written by John Chambers. The Gingerbread House is due to open in the Nuns Island Theatre next week.
